Fashion stars Iris Apfel
New York-based jeweler label Alexis Bittar proves his how timeless his pieces really are with an unconventional new spring/summer 2015 campaign.
The ad. which takes a stand against the fundamental ageism plaguing the fashion industry, features 93-year-old interior designer and fashion icon, Iris Apfel, and 18-year-old Tavi Gevinson, the Rookie magazine editor, former teen blogger and current This is Our Youth Broadway star.
'We're selling to women who are predominantly over 35, but we’re showing them images of girls who are 19 and retouched,' Mr Bittar told WWD. 'For the campaign, we honed in on the essence of strong women who haven’t conformed.'
'Tavi is so strong and so bright. Iris is kind of like a mother to me at this point and was probably a little bit annoyed that I never asked her to be in an ad [before],' he added.
Shot by Terry Tsiolis and styled Arianne Phillips, the Alexis Bittar campaign follows a number of recent ads celebrating successful women over 60.
